Not every day an Australian Entrepreneur signs an agreement to rebrand one of his properties as a hotel, especially not one that has a huge hotel chain behind it. Martyn Barnes Yarra Valley property will be branded as a voco hotel, one of the Intercontinental Hotel Groups (IHG) brand new hotel brands. It’s set to be an upscale hotel that will become the second voco signing in Australia.

Victoria’s Yarra Valley region has built a well-known reputation for being one of Australia’s premier wine regions, famous for its chardonnay and pinot noir, as well as being host to big name music artists such as Robbie Williams, Stevie Nicks and John Farnham who have all performed at Rochford Wines’ annual Day On The Green festivals. IHG mentioned that the trouble with these large events is that there has never been a great hotel to welcome visitors after a fun filled day of music and wine.

The brand new voco Yarra Valley will become the first globally branded, upscale hotel in the Yarra Valley, offering the perfect destination for guests who are looking to eat, sleep and everything in-between. It will become synonymous with relaxation, even if you are just there for the morning coffee or starting off a great evening.

Doors will open to guests in a few years, in 2021, with the hotel offering a total of 170 rooms all with charming touches guests will remember, even after checking out. Some of these amazing features include an on-site gin distillery, a lavender farm, mirrored maze and an amphitheatre cut from natural ground and provedore that serves and sells local Yarra Valley produce. The hotel will also feature various large conference and meeting facilities, a gym, bars which draw on the best of the surrounds, an onsite family restaurant and kids’ entertainment facilities, making it the perfect choice of accommodation for weekend leisure guests and families.

The hotel is situated off the Maroondah Highway, the gateway to the Yarra Valley and only being less than an hour’s drive from the Melbourne CBD. The building is described as being quirky, one that will be sure to catch the eye of anyone passing by, rising up to six stories at one end and tapering down to just one story at the opposite end.

“IHG launched voco in June with the first signing for the brand in Australia, and we are so pleased to see the brand momentum continue here with the second signing. voco delivers a guest experience that stands out, with touches of charm and memorable, distinctive and dependable hallmarks, so we can’t think of a better partner for this new hotel than Martyn Barnes.” Said Abhijay Sandilya, IHG’s Senior Director of Development – Australasia.

“As one of Australia’s premier wine regions, the last thing people want when they arrive in Yarra Valley is a vanilla experience. That’s why voco is the perfect fit, giving business and leisure guests a great, globally-branded, upscale hotel that guests can depend on, but that’s different enough to be fun. I’m excited to work with IHG to open voco Yarra Valley, building on our partnership that will also see us opening Holiday Inn® Melbourne Coburg in 2020. Watch this space, because we have more to come.” Said Martyn Barnes, Managing Director at Barnes Capital.

The Yarra Valley is far more than just wineries, The Yarra Valley offers walking trails at Dandenong Ranges National Park, the Tarrawarra Museum of Art, the Healesville Sanctuary animal attraction, as well as skydiving and hot air ballooning. It’s also the first stop en route to Mount Buller.

“The signing of voco Yarra Valley continues IHG’s ambition to take our brands into regional markets, including suburban micro-markets close to Australian capital cities.” Said Mr. Sandilya.
