Auckland is set to embrace the Intercontinental Life when their first Intercontinental branded hotel is set to open its doors in 2022. The Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) has partnered with the largest city centre real estate owner in New Zealand, Precinct Properties. The best part about this brand new hotel would have to be the location with the hotel offering 90% of rooms providing water views.

The hotel will enjoy its prime position right on the waterfront with a halo address at 1 Queen Street that will undoubtedly become a destination in its own right. This new development will compete the mixed-use development area, boasting the largest concentration of high quality retail facilities in the city, as well as seeing a new 39 level office tower offering an impressive amount of commercial office space. The total cost of this new mixed-use development has been priced at $1 billion dollars.

“It’s high time Auckland got a taste of the InterContinental Life, so we are very excited about this announcement. Being part of such an iconic mixed-use development ensures the hotel, dining, retail and commercial components form a symbiotic relationship.” Said Abhijay Sandilya, IHG’s Senior Director of Development – Australasia

The world class waterfront development is destined to become Auckland’s newest shopping, dining and social hub,  offering an incredible array of food and beverage outlets that are then complimented with the hotels own luxury dining experience, with all day dining and bars.

The hotel is set to have an impressive Club Intercontinental featuring the very best of the Intercontinental brand offering a truly unforgettable experience, memorable long after you have checked out. There will be a gym onsite, meeting facilities and of course the most important part, the hotel will offer 244 guest rooms that will provide guests with an unparalleled experience that shows off the best of Auckland.

“Together with Precinct Properties, we will deliver a distinctive product that inspires those travellers who are looking for the InterContinental understated luxury, both in the leisure and corporate space.” Comented Mr. Sandilya.

The new Intercontinental Auckland will be in close proximity to major corporate and leisure attractions, such as the New Zealand Convention Centre, Viaduct Harbour, Britomart Precinct, Wynyard Quarter, Vector Arena, International Cruise Ship Terminal, SkyCity and the famous SkyTower. The hotel also sits in the centre of Auckland’s own transport hub, which includes easy access to trains, busses and ferries.

Auckland City

“Commercial Bay is set to transform Auckland’s CBD and reshape the waterfront area in the heart of the city, so it’s absolutely fitting that one of the world’s best-known luxury brands is part of this world-class development. The addition of the InterContinental Life further solidifies Commercial Bay as a truly mixed-use precinct, and we’re very proud to partner with IHG to bring this flagship property to life.” Said Scott Pritchard, Chief Executive Office at Precinct Properties.

The hotel will only be situated 20km away from Auckland Airport and various transport options are on offer as soon as you step outside of the terminal.

The Intercontinental Auckland will be the second for the luxury hotel brand in New Zealand, following on from the Intercontinental in Wellington. It adds an important piece to IHG’s portfolio of hotels and also compliments other Australasian properties in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Sanctuary Cove.

Currently the Intercontinental Group has 48 hotels operating under four different brands in Australasia, including Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express with another 22 properties in the pipeline including hotel brands Hotel Indigo, EVEN Hotels and their newest brand Voco.
