Back in May 2018, Qantas launched special weekend fares to Broome while working in calibration with the West Australian Government. The aim was to boost the number of visitors to the Western Australian Region which is heavily dominated by the commercial resource market.
Last year it was announced as a trial for the upcoming 12-month period, but it’s all systems go for Qantas with extremely positive responses from the community and strong uptake of fares as part of this initiative
“As the national carrier, we’re pleased to continue to invest in this initiative, reinforcing our commitment to increasing tourism to and within Western Australia.”– Andrew David, Qantas Domestic CEO.
Over 20,000 tickets have been purchased since the trial launched in May last year, during the winter peak close to 90% of all discounted seats were booked.
Prices will remain unchanged from when they were first introduced. With fares starting from:
$179 one way during the low season (17 October 2019 – 19 June 2020) and;
$199 one way during the high season (17 August – 16 October 2019, and 20 June – 16 August 2020).
Extending on from this initiative , there are 500 special weekend fares each week during the low season and 600 seats during the high season. Qantas mentions that passengers can save more than $200 per return trip.
When travelling over the weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) you will notice a bigger than usual aircraft on this route, the Airbus A320-200. The larger, all economy A320 offers an additional 55 seats compared to the Boeing 717 aircraft that is scheduled for weekday services.
“Operating a larger aircraft has allowed us to bring more visitors to the region and we’ll be encouraging many more people to take advantage of the fares and enjoy a weekend getaway in Broome.” Said Mr. David.
During the week the Airbus A320 is used for Qantas’ corporate customers in the Western Australian resources market. Without these additional Broome flights over the weekend the aircraft would otherwise be sitting on the ground each Saturday and Sunday.
These special weekend fares are now available to book from today, for travel from 17 August 2019.
“The affordable airfares are important for jobs and growth in the regions. They are an incentive for visitors to use money saved on fares to extend their stay in regional WA, supporting the local economy.” Said– Paul Papalia, Tourism Minister, West Australian Government
You can book online at qantas.com or from your local travel agent.
Discounts will continue to be offered to Broome residents for year-round travel, which will see residents receive up to 30% off their travel, including flights to and from Perth.
“It will encourage more people to experience Broome’s beautiful tropical climate and attractions including camel rides along the beach, spectacular sunsets, the Horizontal falls and ancient dinosaur footprints.” Mr. Papalia Commented.
